Kyoto has nurtured a unique culture over more than 1200 years. This culture reveals in beauty of the four seasons and forms the heart of Japanese hospitality. Kyoto has 17 temples, shrines and castles inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List and about 2,000 temples, shrines and other historical sites. These historical buildings and places are integrated with diverse facets of culture, including tea ceremony, flower arrangement and Noh.
A convention pioneer
Kyoto International Conference Center was established in 1966 in this mecca of Japanese culture, as Japan's first state sponsored international conference center. Kyoto International Conference Center has staged over 16,000 conferences since it opened. ICC Kyoto has not only played a key role in the history of international conferences in Japan but is a flagship platform for large-scale conventions in Asia as well. It continues to be a leader in Japanese conventions and a base for diffusing information and values from Kyoto to the wider world.
ACCESSIBILITY
Kansai International Airport
More than fifty airlines from over seventy different cities throughout the world serve Kansai International Airport (KIX) with approximately 700 flights per week. Europe, West coast USA and Australia are all about 10 hours flight to Japan. Since October 2012 KIX is home to Japan's first purpose-built low cost carrier terminal, which has made Kyoto even closer to Asian destinations. From the airport it is just a little over an hour to Kyoto via a multitude of convenient transport choices.
Additional International Gateways
Plentiful domestic flights and excellent transport make Kyoto access very convenient. With its close proximity to two airports and a Shinkansen bullet train station in the city center, Kyoto is so well connected to the rest of Japan that you can choose to land at any international gateway. For those flying into Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Haneda (HND) international airports the transit flight to Osaka Itami (ITM) is just one hour.
Kansai and Itami airports are connected to Kyoto via two rail services, direct coaches, convenient fixed-price shuttle minibuses, and fixed-price taxis.
Domestic Access from Kyoto
Kyoto is convenient for travelling to other parts of Japan. Almost all major cities can be accessible within 60 to 90 minutes from Osaka Itami airport. The safe and comfortable bullet train, or Shinkansen, directly connects Kyoto to major cities, such as Tokyo, Fukuoka, Nagoya and Sendai, as well as other destinations all over the country.

Language
The official language of The World Congress of Neurology is English.
Currency
The Japanese currency is the yen. One yen corresponds to 100 Sen. However, Sen are usually not used in everyday life anymore, except in stock market prices. Bills come in 1,000 yen, 2,000 yen (very rare), 5,000 yen and 10,000 yen denominations. Coins come in 1 yen, 5 yen, 10 yen, 50 yen, 100 yen and 500 yen denominations. Counterfeit money is not an issue in Japan. Foreign currencies are generally not an accepted outside of major international airports.
Visa Requirements
WCN 2017 participants are requested to consult the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in their home country or with their travel agency for specific details relating to visa requirements. It is the responsibility of the participant to obtain a visa if required.
Participants requiring a formal letter of invitation to enable them to make their arrangements to participate in the Congress should send a request for an official invitation letter to our Invitation Department (see "Contact Us" page).
Please note that this letter cannot be regarded as a commitment regarding scheduling or financial support from the organizers.

Liability & Insurance
The Congress Secretariat and Organizers cannot accept liability for personal accidents or loss of or damage to private property of participants. Participants are advised to take out their own personal travel and health insurance for their trip.
